The SEA-HI!

The SEA-Hi! conference was held on the 7th September 2019 at the South Hall of the Shanghai Design Center with the theme of “Guidelines for a Future Life in the Yangtze River Delta”.

This conference is part of the "Three-year Action Plan for the Integration of the Yangtze Delta Region (2018-2020)" program which was enacted by Xi Jinping as a strategic program of national level.

Shanghai Transportation Engineering Society, who organized the event,  invited Ling Jianming, Dean of the School of Transportation Engineering of Tongji University, Xue Feng, Director of the Regional Development Office of Qingpu District, Wang Sai, founder of "Box Power", Hua Ling, head of the transport planning department of SYSTRA Shanghai and Nicolas SIAUD, Urban Transportation Engineer of SYSTRA Shanghai to discuss about the road to take to benefit from a bright future for the Yangtze River Delta.

SYSTRA’s presentation was focused on the Parisian feedbacks and experiences about the embedding of the railway station in the heart of Paris. Indeed, many common points bring the Yangtze River Delta closer to the Parisian region, such as the Seine and the Huangpu river, the business district of La Défense and LuJiaZui, the Eurostar and the Fu Xin, and the Grand Paris Project to the Yangtze Delta project.

SYSTRA started to present the evolution of the spatial urban sprawl, then the evolution of the public transportation network and the creation of new railway stations, to finish with the evolution of the railway station function.

The wave of renovation projects of traditional railway stations in Paris has emerged since the new century which marks that urban managers no longer regard the railway station as a transition node for the journey but are given new meaning in addition to the traffic function. The 20th century was the century of cars where all the shops and activities were built around the parking lots. SYSTRA believes the 21st century will be the one of the trains and its major railway multimodal hubs.

A round table with questions and answers was also organized after the speakers' presentations.

In addition to Hua Ling and Nicolas Siaud, Li Yiqing, General Director of SYSTRA Shanghai, was also present at the conference. It was a great opportunity to meet different important local actors for the development of the Yangtze River Delta.
